The Common App Essay Writing Workshop will expose students to a range of successful college essay writing styles. Students will analyze both successful and unsuccessful college essays using the STG Essay Rubric, and learn what admission officers had to say about the essays. After exploring the purpose of the essay as well as strategies to strengthen their own stories, students will complete the first half of the workshop having creative ideas for how to start their own college essays.

Students will then put what they learned in the first half of the workshop into action, creating the foundation for their essays while thinking about what specific details they will include. Students will leave this workshop having brainstormed the topic and built the structure for their essays.

Separately, the Supplemental Essay Writing Workshop reviews the different kinds supplemental essay prompts, what each questions is asking, and how to answer these questions in the way that colleges are looking for.  Students will learn how to read these questions, develop their responses and highlight their strengths while still answering the question.
